One-on-ones
Run regular 1:1s with your direct reports using shared agendas, prep notes, and a full conversation history.
A one-on-one (1:1) is a recurring meeting between a manager and a direct report. Cadence gives each 1:1 a shared space for agendas and prep — so both people show up ready, and nothing important slips through the cracks between sessions.

Start a 1:1
Click Start new 1:1 and pick the person from your team. Cadence creates a 1:1 session if one doesn't already exist and opens the detail view.
You can also start a new 1:1 from the o quick-create shortcut anywhere in the app — pick
the person and you'll land directly on the detail view.
The 1:1 detail view
The detail view is your shared workspace for the meeting. It shows:
- Name and role — who the meeting is with and their role.
- Cadence — how often you meet (Weekly, Bi-weekly, or Monthly).
- Next scheduled and last met dates.
- A Shared agenda section both parties can edit.
- A Prep section for your own notes before the meeting.
The list view shows all your active 1:1s at a glance — each card displays the person's name, role, cadence, and when the next meeting is due.
Shared agenda
The shared agenda is visible to both manager and report. Use it to collect topics before the meeting so neither party is scrambling when you sit down together.
- Click the agenda section to open the editor.
- Type your topics, questions, or discussion points.
- Changes save automatically when you click away.
Both parties see each other's additions in real time.
Prep notes
Prep notes are for your own preparation — only you can see them. Use this space to jot reminders, review recent goal updates, or note anything you want to raise but haven't put on the shared agenda yet.
Complete a 1:1
After the meeting, mark it complete to log the session and reset the agenda for next time.
Completing a 1:1:
- Records the last met date.
- Clears the shared agenda so you start fresh next session.
- Schedules the next meeting date based on the cadence.
The history of completed 1:1s is preserved on the detail view so you can look back at previous conversations.
Cadence and scheduling
When you set up a 1:1, choose how often you want to meet:
| Cadence | Frequency |
|---|---|
| Weekly | Every 7 days |
| Bi-weekly | Every 14 days |
| Monthly | Every 30 days |
Cadence uses the completion date of each session to schedule the next one — so if a meeting runs a day late, the next one shifts accordingly rather than drifting further and further off.
